GMC Athletes Testimonials

Still not convinced? See what my clients have to say:

Taylor Gunman, 18, Student/Elite Racer

Gordy had been recommended to me as a coach from Carl Williams for awhile, so when the chance came to get coached I took the opportunity up as soon as possible.

It hasn’t taken long to notice the benefits of his programs, my climbing and sprinting is back and I have more confidence in how I ride.

The simple structured training programs make the training rides easy to understand. They are full of manageable intervals where you can go out and finish your ride thinking you just put everything into each effort. But the training is also very social where you can still ride with other people.

With a successful coach still racing the races I participate in, I have the aggression and fire  to race hard and make sure I achieve top results to impress and show his hard work is paying off. With Gordy’s training and Torture loop I haven’t enjoyed riding my bike this much in a very long time and look forward to see what the season has in store for me.

Michael Winiata, 36, Complex Manager

On the 24th of December 2008, I purchased my 1st road bike with an aim of completing the Wattyl Lake Cycle Challenge.

I started riding most nights for about 30km and joined some of the local bunch rides on the weekends. I found the bunch rides hard and was continually dropped.

In June 2009 I contacted Gordy to find out how he could improve my cycling. I wanted to get stronger, faster and be able to climb hills.

Within a week I had my first training program and I was away.

Gordy teaches you everything from bunch riding, climbing and descending skills to mention only a few. One of the key things, is he makes cycling fun, with regular catch up rides for coffee or a smashing over the Waitaks.

He won't do the riding for you, but he will motivate, inspire and encourage you to achieve your goals.

I achieved my goal for Taupo and look forward to more success under the guidence of Gordon McCauley and GMC Coaching.

Brian Biggs, 27, Counties Manukau Cycling Club Captain

I first talked to Gordon in June 2005, it was just before the Queens Birthday Tour in Taranaki. I rode it in D grade, for the 3rd year in a row and lost almost half an hour on GC getting dropped anytime the road pointed upwards. In 2006 I went back and rode B grade and finished 13th on GC only loosing a couple of minutes, thanks to a crash, and picked up 2nd in the time trial Stage.

This is just 1 example of the progress I have made, Gordon has taught me much more than just how to pedal faster, things like where to sit in the bunch, how to climb, how to time trial faster (24.40 down to 21.08 over 16kms), how to recover…. It’s very easy to take everything on board when you know the guy has been out there doing it on the bike for as long as he has, it has a sense of credibility around it which can only be earned out racing.

After achieving the goals I initially set out, with Gordon's help, I have since gone on to ride and finish the Tour of Southland and the Tour of Wellington. Races I thought were far and away beyond my abilities. Gordon hasn’t done the riding for me but he certainly has given a lot of the tools I never used to have, which have enabled me to maximise the benefit I get out of my training and racing.

Matt Hinton, 23, Financial Analyst

I used to think I knew how to train hard. By using free-downloaded programs and some helpful advice from other riders I was able to place 2nd in the fun ride race of at K2 in 2007, and ride in A grade club races. However, after a year or two, my riding went down hill, and the training methods of the past wouldnt turn it around. Getting sick and tired of over-training myself and not getting any results, I contacted Gordy at GMC Coaching to try and recover some form.

That was just over 2 months ago, and already I have noticed massive increases through using the GMC smart methods of training. I am now able to train harder in each session when it counts, and look forward to getting on the bike. The knowledge that I have learned particularly about race preparation and strategy have made me look forward to going out to the club races each weekend.
